Does sleep effect your health?
Studies have come back with a resounding YES! Sleep, or lack of sleep, can have a major effect on our physical and mental wellbeing.
Most of us already experience tiredness and trouble focusing on days when we haven’t gotten enough sleep.
But also experiencing symptoms of depression is 10x more likely and symptoms of anxiety are 17x more likely with inadequate amounts of sleep.
Conversely, getting more sleep can help with symptoms of both of these issues.
So how do we do this?
Many wellness professionals tell us to have routines at night to prepare ourselves mentally for bed but that is only timing and mental habit building. These are definitely excellent suggestions but only address timing of our sleep cycles. They don’t address the quality of our sleep.
We will go a step further and suggest that diet, exercise, and meditation also play important rolls in how well we sleep.
Consciously moving our bodies, being aware of the quality of the foods we fuel our bodies with, and calming our minds through meditation are also vital to how our body and mind function throughout and at the end of our days.
As the old saying goes. It is all connected.
